Fellow anthropologist Ahmet Yavuklu (@yavukluahmet Fellow anthropologist Ahmet Yavuklu (@yavukluahmet_ ), photographer Amar Kiliç, and Turkish Team Dag (tattoo) have produced a stunning new book documenting the tattoos of Arab and Kurdish elders living in/near Viranşehir, Turkey. With support from the local government, the 128pp. book records numerous traditional tattoo patterns and their meanings in Turkish and English. ☮️ I encourage readers of my post to make a donation to this ongoing project (and secure a PDF of the book! I did...!). Catching up w/ college buddies in Baltimore this w Catching up w/ college buddies in Baltimore this weekend which brings me back to 2002 when I penned one of my first of many articles for Skin & Ink Magazine @skinandinkmag on the @baltimoretattoomuseum under the incredible editor (and friend) Bob Baxter @baxterstattooroadtrip. Back in those days you’d turn the pages of S&I and learn about legendary artists, Indigenous tattoo traditions, and the history of the craft, which was constantly evolving.
