ANCIENT POLYNESIAN TATTOO TOOLS WERE MADE OF HUMAN BONE

Originally excavated in 1963, human and animal bone tattoo combs from site Tongatapu To.1, Tonga, were recently radiocarbon dated and are believed to be 2700-years-old, making them the oldest confirmed tattooing combs found in Oceania. The find was recently published in The Journal of Island and Coastal Archaeology.
