In the Hydrographers Range of SE Papua New Guinea, In the Hydrographers Range of SE Papua New Guinea, an ancient male initiation ritual culminated in the receipt of hand-tapped tattoos (kuije kanan, "thorn hit") by male experts. Poi Mirang Pai, a Kenyah aristocrat and perhaps th Poi Mirang Pai, a Kenyah aristocrat and perhaps the last fully tattooed member of the royal family of the Uma Bakah clans, Sarawak.
